The lack of lateral restraint can leave such structures more susceptible to | deflection and spread caused by those loads imposed by roof tiles. We do believe an element of | such movement has affected this roof towards the right hand side adjacent the gable and likely | increased by the replacement covering with the clay tiles offering an increased loading when | compared to the lighter original slates. In an attempt to compensate this and support the roof | additional purlin timbers have been incorporated at high and low level albeit in subject areas | rafters at high level are in fact not in contact with the purlin and this therefore offers no benefit. | Those timber works undertaken in an attempt to strengthen and support the roof appear basic | and no comment can be made as to how these are detailed/extend through into the neighbouring | roof space. There is however little evidence of any significant movements affecting the | neighbouring properties roof when viewing externally.
